Meeting of the Minds 2014
4 & 11 June
Staying Alive!

On 4 & 11 June 2014 Talented and Gifted students of Year 5-8 can attend Staying Alive! There will be four free half day programmes at the aquarium. Start thinking about who could be nominated from your school.

Students will investigate special senses, adaptations and behaviour and locomotion features of aquarium animals that enable them to survive.  Activities will include dissection, respiration rate activity, adaptation studies, observational drawing, and handling bio-facts.

Two sessions run each day from 9.15-11:30 am and 12.15-2.30 pm. Up to 10 students per school are encouraged to attend. Schools need to register their students now to avoid missing out.

All entrants to the Meeting of the Minds are invited to complete an optional project for the Jock McKenzie award.  Research questions are here so students can research and prepare for the event.  Prizes are given for the best project and certificates are given to all participants.

Biodiversity Day - Thursday May 22, 2014

A unique opportunity for Year 1-3 students who may not be exposed to animal life to come to the National Aquarium for a free fun day.

Hawke’s Bay primary schools can apply to send a group of students for a free visit to the National Aquarium.   This is a great outing for students who haven’t had all the opportunities that other students have had.

Celebrate the amazing living world with us as we introduce our aquarium animals to young students.  Students will make discoveries through hands-on activities. Students will be able to touch a tortoise, terrapin and skink.

On an aquarium tour students will have close contact with marine and freshwater life and kiwi.  Students will learn about the variety of animal life around us.
