Teacher evaluation draw

Congratulations to Grant Shanley from Hastings Central School whose evaluation was chosen in our draw at the end of last year! Grant has won a free class trip for his students this year.

At the end of all visits, teachers are asked to complete an evaluation form and return it to us. As part of our LEOTC contract the Ministry of Education requires us to report on teacher’s feedback. We appreciate you filling in the form and getting it back to us. It gives us the opportunity to assess what we do and make appropriate changes to our programmes to meet your needs. As a way of saying thanks we offer the incentive of a free class trip draw every year.

Waste Aware Classroom

The room, with the gorgeous seaside view, has been finished and now we are outfitting it with cool interactive activities for visitors. Expect an invite to the opening in 2012.

Waste Aware is a Napier City Council programme that sponsors Napier schools for activities and trips while learning about waste reduction.  The vision of this programme is to give students ‘a greater appreciation of the environment and the positive and negative impacts that we can have’.

There is a full term programme and a half day programme available.

Bronwyn’s having a baby!

Bronwyn Willmann, Educator, is having her first baby in November.  She will take a year’s maternity leave to care for her new son, Finn.  We hope to see her back next November and wish them all the best!

Karlie Lett who has a degree in Marine Biology will be taking Bronwyn’s place.

Digital tours

A visit to the Aquarium has become even more interactive!

Just before Christmas we launched new digital technology with “Free Digital Tours”.

The tours allow visitors to learn even more during their visit by accessing fascinating details about the variety of wildlife we have at the Aquarium. The tours can be accessed through video or audio tours. So if you have access to smart devices, such as iphone, ipads etc or mp3 players make sure you talk to us about utilising the benefits of the tours prior to or during your class visit.
