Napier City Council Hawkes Bay Wine Country Qualmark Endorsement

Qualmark

Qualmark is New Zealand tourism's official mark of quality and the world's first integrated quality assurance system. The Qualmark endorsement system and the Qualmark star grading system are backed by Tourism New Zealand, the Automobile Association and the Tourism Industry Association.

The quality mark incorporates the official silver fern icon, and eligibility to use the mark is determined by a detailed onsite assessment covering aspects affecting a customer’s experience with tourism businesses.

The National Aquarium received a 94% rating in its first assessment and a 96% rating two years later in 2007.  The pass rating requires at least a 60% pass.  The National Aquarium of New Zealand is in the Visitor Activity Sector of the Qualmark Endorsement system.

Qualmark Green – The Enhanced Environmental Criteria

Qualmark has responded to what visitors want when they come to New Zealand by implementing enhanced environmental criteria into the existing annual assessments. This change is part of the New Zealand tourism industry's ongoing commitment to looking after New Zealand for future generations to enjoy.

All businesses that display Qualmark star grading or endorsed logo are assessed on their environmental performance.

The National Aquarium has been awarded a Silver Enviro rating, meaning that we perform well in this area and engage in activities that include:

Energy Efficiency
Reducing the amount of electricity, gas and fuel used by the business.

Waste Management
Reducing and managing waste produced by the business (including the philosophy of 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink').
