A space science showcase by Tūhura Otago Museum.
Get ready to blast off on a space adventure! We’re excited to bring the Tūhura Otago Museum’s ‘Tūhura Tuarangi, Aotearoa in Space’ science showcase to the National Aquarium of New Zealand this November.
The showcase explores Aotearoa New Zealand's deep connections to space - from our earliest Polynesian navigators to the amazing space technologies and research being developed right here in Aotearoa.
Developed by Tūhura Otago Museum in Dunedin, the Tūhura Tuarangi (meaning ‘to discover space’) – Aotearoa in Space aims to inspire tamariki about space and science.
The showcase has visited over 20 cities across New Zealand and is packed with hands-on interactives to learn about space and science. Come hold a four-billion-year-old meteorite, build a satellite, launch a rocket, and see how you can create (and explode) your own clean, green rocket fuel.
Our team have worked with Tūhura Otago Museum to create a fantastic session for students. In this one hour session students will:
• Explore the showcase with our team.
• Learn about space junk (which is currently being disposed of in the ocean!).
• Uncover the environmental effects of space junk.
• Undertake a post-visit activity where they’re challenged to create a solution on how to deal with space junk.
Book your class in today, sessions are limited and we know they’ll get snapped up quickly.
When: 1 hour session (9.30am-10.30am or 1pm-2pm), weekdays from 6 November – 14 December.
What is included: A one hour session with a National Aquarium educator, exclusive access to the showcase, educational session on the environmental effects of space junk, post-visit activity, follow-up with a National Aquarium educator.
Bookings: Email our team to secure your spot.
