Naughty Penguins to the Fore as Finalists Announced!
Preliminary voting for the National Aquarium of New Zealand’s inaugural Penguin of the Year closed at midnight last night with two finalists emerging head and flipper above their competitors in a fiercely-competitive 12-strong field.

Children Growing Awareness of Biodiversity: One Speech at a Time
The Hillmac Electrical Speech Contests’ new topic for 2018 has got Bay students talking!
‘Biodiversity in your backyard’ is the topic for both Junior and Intermediate contests, and has encouraged 16 Hawke’s Bay schools to take part, with other schools still to confirm.

Leaves, twigs, fruits and flowers – food webs with Richmond School
Richmond School took a field trip to the National Aquarium where food webs of the bush were investigated along with native animals like our two kiwi, Ngaio and Ed, and the gorgeous green geckos.
The students used microscopes to discover things like the intricate networks of leaf structure and kiwi feathers.
Later that day they went to Dolbel Reserve for a talk and walk around the restoration project at the park reserve.
It was a great day for us all!
