The National Aquarium of New Zealand's Little Penguins

Get up close and personal with our world-famous Little Penguins. Learn all about the 'naughty' and 'good' penguins of the month, and take part in hand-feeding them in their enclosure!

You'll get to experience what goes on behind the scenes, discovering all about the day-to-day care of these character-filled little birds. And you'll also learn about our rescue and rehabilitation centre here at the Aquarium.

Times: 1.00pm daily.

Duration: Approximately 45 minutes.

Participants: Maximum of 4 people. Minimum age 6 years. Children 14 years and under must be accompanied by a paying adult (18 years or older) that is part of the encounter.

Please note, there are some considerations for participation in this encounter which can be viewed in our detailed FAQ's. 
Participants may not be able to take part in this encounter if:

• They have been in contact with birds in the 72 hours before their encounter
• They have suffered from any symptoms of illness (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea) in the 48 hours before their encounter
• They have any physical access requirements that mean they cannot access stairs

Bookings: Bookings are essential and subject to availability / confirmation.

Please note: All participants must wear covered shoes if taking part in the encounter. All encounters must be pre-paid before your booking is confirmed. Tickets are strictly non-refundable.

Little Penguin Close Encounter Cost:

• 4 people max per encounter
• Includes general admission to the Aquarium
• $150 per person, inclusive of GST (1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024)
• Bookings are essential and subject to availability/confirmation. 
• Please note:  All encounters must be pre-paid before your booking is confirmed. Tickets are strictly non-refundable.
• Participants must arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time, and covered shoes are required to take part in encounter.
