The New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Commitment aims to see every New Zealand tourism business committed to sustainability by 2025.

To deliver on this, the National Aquarium of New Zealand has signed up to the Tourism Sustainability Commitment to help contribute to restoring, protecting and enhancing our natural environment, and continuing to be a high quality destination of choice for domestic and international visitors.  

This includes adopting 14 commitments to support the following eight goals:

  1. Tourism businesses are experiencing sustainable growth through ongoing profitability, innovation, quality improvement and investment
  2. International and domestic visitors' experience of New Zealand overwhelmingly meets or exceeds their expectations
  3. Tourism businesses actively engage with their visitors to ensure that the visitor experience is enhanced and adverse impacts are reduced
  4. Tourism businesses are desirable and responsible employers, and leaders in engaging and supporting vibrant communities
  5. Tourism businesses actively support and champion ecological restoration intiatives
  6. Tourism business are measuring, managing and minimising their environmental footprint
  7. $41 billion total annual tourism revenue by 2025
  8. New Zealanders are happy with the level of tourism activity and support growth
