We’re excited to have partnered with eOceans - a digital platform to track your at sea activities and log your observations while simultaneously sharing to science.
This free easy-to-use app, allows you to document what you see anywhere you see the ocean in real time. If you live, work, or play near the ocean, download the app and start tracking what you see - even if it’s empty beaches!
The eOceans pilot project, ‘Our Ocean in COVID-19’, aims to quantify the changes that are being seen in the ocean now and into the new normal. The scale of this global pandemic means tourism, fishing, and recreational uses, have all changed dramatically. The information you collect will help eOcean’s researchers understand what’s happening in coastal communities, along coastlines, and in the oceans as humans respond to COVID-19.
In this project, patterns will be tracked along coastlines and oceans around the world in real-time. Scientists will map and analyze this data at global and national scales to explore patterns. These patterns will be examined through time to understand how the COVID-19 global event impacted the social, economic, and ecological condition of the ocean. Your observations are essential in making this happen.
Privacy is also considered, your data is amalgamated across thousands of users and millions of observations – it will not be identifiable to an individual (more details on privacy can be found on their website.
Your efforts will contribute to a snapshot on a global scale that will help to document the impact of this change (positive or negative) in the future.
