Birthday T&C's

Terms and Conditions

The National Aquarium of New Zealand provides an opportunity for people of all ages to have a great time in a unique environment. It is very important that you take the time to read and understand these terms and conditions to ensure the success of your event at the National Aquarium of New Zealand:

GENERAL

  • 9am – 12pm (room must be vacated by 12pm)
  • 1pm – 4pm (room must be vacated by 4pm)

Once you have selected a session time, there are three fixed price birthday packages available:

  • Up to 10 Person party
  • Up to 20 Person party
  • Up to 30 Person party

Viewings of animal feedings are offered as part of the birthday party package. Specifically:

  • Morning session includes penguins (9.30am) and reef fish (10.00am)
  • Afternoon session includes penguins (1.30pm) and sharks (2.00pm)

Viewing feeding sessions as part of a birthday party will rely on the timely arrival of guests. Feeding sessions cannot be delayed or rescheduled.
All party packages require adult supervision at a ratio of 1:4 (excluding Aquarium staff).

For every four (4) children there should be at least one (1) adult. For this purpose, adults are considered fifteen (15) years and older.

Photographs and video are permitted but may not be used for commercial or promotional use without express permission from the National Aquarium of New Zealand.

For further information about commercial photography or filming at the Aquarium, contact the Aquarium directly.

PAYMENT & CONFIRMATION

Payment for birthday parties must be made in full prior to the commencement of the party. Payments can be made on arrival on the party date. Failure to make payment on time may result in your party being cancelled.

A completed Kids Party Booking Form must be received at least ten (10) working days prior to your party date. Changes made after this time must be negotiated directly with the Aquarium Birthday Party Coordinator and are subject to availability.

All birthday parties booked at the National Aquarium have a minimum purchase requirement of one of the three birthday party packages available. It is the customer's responsibility to choose the package that best suits their needs. The Aquarium Birthday Party Coordinator is more than happy to assist in this process.
As a birthday party is an additional service, free general admission for children under three years old does not apply in this instance. Children under three years old will be included in the maximum headcount of the birthday package purchased.

'Friends of the Aquarium' memberships cannot be used in relation to birthday party bookings and guest admittance.
Prices included in this document are applicable to birthday party packages only.
Possible per person savings suggested for the various package options in advertising material are calculated against the average per person price. The savings stated assumes maximum numbers of guests allowable attend.
The National Aquarium of New Zealand reserves the right to amend these conditions or prices as required from time to time without notice.

CANCELLATIONS , POSTPONEMENTS AND REFUNDS

All party changes, postponements and cancellations must be negotiated directly with the Aquarium Birthday Party Coordinator and are at the discretion of the National Aquarium of New Zealand.

Parties take place regardless of weather, unless the Aquarium itself is closed.

Refunds will not be given for any bookings cancelled within five (5) working days of the party.
Each available birthday package has a maximum headcount allowable. No refunds will be issued in part or full if the maximum headcount is not utilised or if guests do not show.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CUSTOMER

On the day of the party, the customer, you, is responsible for:

  • The behaviour of attendees and compliance with the terms and conditions.
  • Ensuring that Aquarium facilities are not left in an abused or damaged condition. Any damage to Aquarium property will be on-charged to the customer who can then take the matter up with the person/s responsible.
  • Ensuring that the times arranged for the commencement of the party are strictly adhered to. Please be on time as a courtesy to those providing your party services.
  • Ensuring that the party (including any pack down required) finishes within the designated venue hire period. Parties must not run over due to lateness by the client. Parties are scheduled back to back with a brief cleaning/set-up time in between. Because of the quick turnaround, we must insist that you adhere to your party times.
  • Aside from your dedicated party room, the other areas you and your guests have access to within the Aquarium are also open to members of the public who have purchased general admission. Please ensure your guests respect other Aquarium patrons. For example, no running within walkways is permitted and noise levels must be kept to a minimum.
  • In light of protecting our oceans, please do not bring in balloons as they are harmful to sea life.
  • Ensuring that prohibited items are not brought into the Aquarium. These include: balls or other throwing devices, whistles, party poppers or other noise makers, bicycles, skateboards or roller skates/blades, alcohol or illegal substances.

The customer and their guests are expected to follow all reasonable instructions given by Aquarium staff at all times, particularly in the event of an emergency.
